Have a customer who put a deposit on a machine. Delayed 10 days and had an inspection. Inspection went well there was a small ding in the plate cylinder in the back which does not effect printing in any way. Customer was informed that the press is in very good condition. I collected a deposit before the inspection to hold the machine. Email after email trying to get a hold of the customer. he has not paid the inspector, I can not get an answer out of him on the press and it has been a month. I have expenses the inspector has expenses and a broker has expenses. What is the right thing to do with the money. $2,700.00 AFW Author: Andrew F. Washington

Andy,
I just read your question of deposit. I definately would take everyone's expenses out of the deposit and make sure the money went to the right people. I would send the customer a bill and itemize what you did with the money.
If he did that to Heidelberg USA or any other manufacturer, he wouldn't see any of his deposit.
Good Luck,

Dear Andy
I'm afraid it doesn't take a genius to figure out the guy has no money unfortunately like a lot of people that have become involved in our trade over the past couple of years they use this as a common practise, you will never see them do this to a large company such as heidelberg, komori,or any other for that matter. Why? because they would send him a bill for expenses incurred he would lose the deposit and be left with a rather large bill. so in a word my friend tell him to get stuffed and send him a bill and share the funds with the engineer Author: tony
